Ever since I started my new job, I've met a couple of new and interesting people. For some reason, I tend to attract people with these weird tendencies.
I know that I can be pretty off the walls myself. But I always meet people that want to call me their "best friend".
I met Yeng this year and every time we go out, she announces to every one: " No, I don't have work today. I'm out eating with my best friend".
And then you get Malaykham saying to her boyfriend or random people: "I'm just here with my best friend, we might go shopping later."
Then there's Kyle (ugh x 10) talking on the phone with his mom: " oh no, I'm going to get a ride with my best friend. Mark, you remember him right?".
I have a couple more of those "best friends" but I'm not going to list them all. I don't know how they go about calling me their best friend. Is it that they call me their best friend at the moment? I don't think so because they refer me as that every time they mention me. I don't know how I became their best friend. I've known all these people for at least a year or less.
I wonder if I started calling my customers my "best friend", would they tip me more? or would I get in trouble because I sound like I'm playing favorites.
How about you and me be best friends?

I remember I started playfully calling Christy (at Hollywood Video) my best friend... and then all of my other coworkers also. Christy started getting mad at me hahaha. And so did Brandi, because I never called her my best friend. I even called Damian my best friend, as well as all of the guys at Game Crazy and the new hires. Just never Brandi, she knew about it all, too.
Maybe they WANT to believe that the BEST friendship is mutual. Perhaps you're just that fine of a friend. Take it as a compliment and just privately choose your own best friends. If you never refer to these people as your best friends, they'll get the message.
