My dad's computer was having problems because of my little brother's excessive downloads so my dad asked me to help him out. All we had to do was clean up his computer. It turns out that they haven't cleaned up their computer's memory since day one, and they had that computer for about two years. So you can imagine how much crap they had on there to clean up. About 5.3 gb of crap to be exact.
We got the problem taken care of. He isn't going let my brother use the computer any more. Good luck with that.
My dad and I actually got along. We were talking about music and he likes a lot of the stuff I downloaded to my brothers itunes. But some of the stuff my dad says can be a little weird. Now that I am as old as I am, my dad isn't afraid to say things around me. He says f**** this and that and says some crude things around me.
We were discussing the things that I do with my computer and why I never get certain problems when he suddenly says : "I don't download anything, I just go to some porn sites but...."
I didn't show any emotion or grimace at that but I sure was a little shocked and weirded out.

Kind of sounds like a nice "grown-up" moment; good for you! And good for you for being a good son and trying to help your dad. That porn site s**t can be a real smack in the face, but at least he didn't give you examples (i.e. "my fave site is MyBurningBush.biz..."). Finding out our parents are still sexually active is almost always shocking, for some reason. Maybe Stay-at-Home-Gay can provide the underlying psych rationale. My guess is that the sex drive never really dies, and is a basic human physiological need, so that makes it a prime need in Maslow's Hierarchy; I've seen too many demented old people do things with bottles of shampoo that were never intended by the manufacturer. Ugh. Can't wait until they perfect that "Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" thing, so I can get some of those images removed.

Yeah, that was a real smack in the face alright, and I draw the line there. I already get enough of my mom going GAGA over certain younger stars like Zak Efron that it makes me puke inside a little. And to think I work with older ladies that get hot and bothered when they see a overly buff military man. It's just so weird when your parents get hot and bothered over things like that. It's kinda gross. But I try to keep my mind open and consider that they are still human, and not that old. Thanks Brent!
Hehehe, true true, they are human and most humans remain or desire to remain sexual their entire lives and this is supported by much survey research. (Sexual being defined in a broad sense including solitary [bottles and all included ^_^] and coupled modes of erotic expression).
I agree with Brent, it was one of those special "grown up" moments. Your Dad is acknowledging your maturity by being able to be more natural and straight forward with you, which I think sounds great.
Why we find it shocking? I've thought of three potential reasons already (one involving Freud's Oedipus Complex), but for the sake of parsimony, I'll stick with a more concrete proposal. I would say it probably has to do with our schemas (or mental representations) of parents and older adults. We tend not to include sex in that image, so it can be shocking when this image is inconsistent with our experiences. For example, if a Chinese person came up to you and spoke German fluently, it would also be shocking. And I would hypothesize that with the emotional attachment with our parents, any change in our view of them would likely produce a stronger emotional reaction.
It took me many years to get used to the idea that my mother likes sex. I do admit I may have acted a bit childish before I came to really accept it.

I can proudly say that I was childish about it and blogged about it like there was no tomorrow.
But I guess I should get used to it. He's getting older. And gosh, he LOVES women. Oh gosh, just typing that sentence just gave me the chills *shudders*
I won't be sharing any of my thoughts with him any time soon.
But that's mainly because of the kind of relationship I had with him growing up, which makes it an even bigger shock factor that he acts this way around me out of no where.
Yeah, and I really hope he doesn't tell me what kind of fetishes he's into and stuff like that, because that makes it super super nasty.
I can't believe I even went there.
